  • Umar had produced a knock of 129 runs on his test match debut, against New Zealand, in Dunedin, in November 2009. This had made him just the 2nd Pakistani player to score a test match hundred on debut away from home.
  • He had also become the first Pakistani batsman to score both his maiden Test and ODI hundreds away from home.
  • An aggressive batsman in the middle order, he has been featured in franchise-based T20 leagues around the world, turning out for Barbados Tridents (2013), Guyana Amazon Warriors (2015), and Trinbago Knight Riders (2016) in the CPL (Caribbean Premier League); Chittagong Vikings (2015) and Rajshahi Kings (2016) in the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League); and Lahore Qalandars (2016-2019) and Quetta Gladiators (2019-2020) in the PSL (Pakistan Super League).
