The soccer team at Mercer University lost one of its players on Monday night after he apparently passed away during a match.
According to WMAZ, Baba, also known as Abdul Rasheed Babatunde Agbaje, suffered a heart arrest while taking part in a pick-up soccer match at the university’s intramural fields. He was a man of age, 21.

According to Mercer University, the student-athlete and his brother Salam joined the football squad for the 2019 campaign. He made four starts in 18 outings, and in the 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 seasons, he was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.
Brad Ruzzo, the head coach of the men’s soccer team, released a statement saying, “We’re heartbroken over Baba’s passing, and our hearts go out to his family and loved ones.”
He was a remarkable individual who perfectly personified what it means to be a Mercer Bear. Everyone who knew Baba adored him, and coaching under him was a blessing. His absence will be felt deeply.

An autopsy is anticipated because the cause of death has not been identified.
